SAM 248 November Meeting! Michael Kaminskas!
Slightly different place and day than our usual meeting!
Hello again, SAM 248!
I just wanted to remind everyone again that Michael Kaminskas is lecturing for for our November meeting!
This is on a different day than our usual Wednesday, however. For this meeting, we are meeting at 6:30 on Tuesday, November 6, 2018
Remember also, that we are meeting at:
7025 E Osborn Rd
Scottsdale, AZ 85251
Note that this is also a bit different than our previous haunt at Denny’s. Winfield’s has a marvelous stage and there is no purchase requirement! Curt sent me a more detailed map, a photograph of the place, and directions as to how to get there (thanks, Curt!):
From Scottsdale Road head west on Osborn Rd
At 71st street (first turn after Olive Garden) turn left (south)
Turn into the first driveway on the right which will be the parking lot for First Baptist Church of Scottsdale
Park in any available spot, head west on the street side sidewalk (Osborn Rd) and you will see the coffee shop with outdoor lights and outdoor tables
Come on in!
So…make the appropriate adjustments in your calendars for November and I hope to see you there!
Now…about our lecture and lecturer!
This lecture will elevate your close-up and parlor magic to the next level with applications that can be adapted to fit any performance situation. The lecture is filled with hidden gems gained through decades of real-world experience. There are no pipe dreams.
What will he teach?
While Michael has a basic outline for this lecture, it is also the peoples lecture. This is what makes the live learning process so valuable. The ability to ask questions. Quite simply that can’t be done on a DVD or in a download release. Each lecture is bound to be a slightly different and based upon what the collective group wishes to engage in seeing and discussing. With a lifetime of magical knowledge nothing is off the table. While Michael will have some products to sell, THIS IS NOT a dealer demo. Everyone will be able to leave and perform some of the effects straight away.
He is an inventor and a creator of world-class magic with many instructional books, DVD’s and effects on the market. Known for his impeccable sleight-of-hand and smooth performance style, Michael has also been dubbed “King of the Cups” by the late Mike Rogers. He has created both new and novel approaches to classic effects as well as being the creator and manufacturer of some of the finest cups and balls sets and chop cups in the world. This is one lecture you will not want to miss!
For those of you not familiar with Michael’s work, he is an author, creator, performer and consultant. He regularly works for many fortune 500 companies weaving magic into their presentations and hospitality suites. In 2012 Michael opened his one man show “Imagine” which ran completely sold-out for 3 consecutive years. Michael earned his PhD in magic at the prestigious FFFF invitation only gathering. A member of the Magic Circle in London, England, Michael was accepted as A.I.M.C. with Silver Star designation. Since the release of his first instructional book in 1994, Michael has lectured extensively for his peers throughout the world from conventions to various group and club meetings to the Magic Circle and the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, California ,where he has also performed on several occasions.
A sampling of magical effects…
My CCR – My go to Chop Cup Routine that has plenty of magic and doesn’t insult your audiences intelligence with a guessing game.
Chop Box – A chop cup routine done with a box made out of cards and a signed card. The payoff comes with unexpected surprises including the signed card ending up in an impossible location.
Sci-Fly – Michael’s take on the fingertips coins across plot. So squeeky clean it can be done in the shower!
What Box? – Why not remove the cards by having the box vanish a little at a time with just a wave of your hand. A classic plot turned on it’s head.
Cold Fusion – Remove any two cards from the deck, fuse them together face to face and instantly split them into two separate cards again. The perfect precursor to the Anniversary Travelers.
Anniversary Travelers – A unique take on the Anniversary Waltz where two signed selections are removed from separate pockets then fused together back to back and given away as a souvenir.
Sweet Tear – Rip open a package of sweets and immediately reseal it and give it away. But wait, there’s more.. come see it at the lecture to find out the rest!
Escape – David Copperfield caused quite a stir in the magic world when he performed Timothy Wenk’s “Misled” on television. Imagine passing a pen through a bill without any gaffs or gimmicks. Totally impossible and totally impromptu! This is an updated handling of “The Great Escape” that I originally published in 1990. So good it looks like a camera trick and super easy to do.
KFC – This ingenious card fold will take the place of the standard Mercury Fold. Learn how to fold a card into quarters while the spectators are burning the deck. Best yet, they push their card into the center of the pack themselves.
Dollar Dollar – Two silver dollars are produced at your fingertips and then visually change one at a time into folding currency. The ultimate in eye candy!
Clinger – A modernized twist on a neo-classic effect of a (wand) pen clinging to your outstreached fingers. Both your hands and the pen may be examined. Quick preparation and a genuine fooler.
P.S., If you have a performance soon, I’d love to announce it to the membership! Send me the details and I’ll include it!
